Scotland Holiday: Expansion Plans For Glasgow Airport Unveiled

Airport operator BAA has unveiled new multi-million-pound plans for the expansion of Glasgow International Airport, as the company strives to meet rising passenger demand.

The plans, which are expected to cost BAA some £290 million over the next 25 years, will involve the expansion of one terminal, along with the general improvement of terminal and airfield facilities.

The plans come in response to a forecasted trebling of passenger numbers passing through the airport each year, with the current figure of 8.8 million expected to rise to more than 24 million by 2030.

Commenting on the new plans to the BBC, airport managing director Alan Barr said: " It is a responsible plan for growth that means better facilities for our passengers, more jobs for local people, a bigger choice of international destinations for business and leisure travellers, and action to tackle the environmental impacts of aviation."
