Florida (Disney) Holiday
Traditions and culture in Florida (Disney)The resort was designed to be set up as a natural partner to Disneyland in Anaheim, California and after much deliberation over location and an abundance of red tape, it opened in September 1971. It was decided that it would be named after Walt Disney, who pushed hard for its creation but died just five years before it was opened in Orlando, Florida with the Magic Kingdom theme park. The Epcot Center - called simply 'Epcot' since 1996 - was subsequently opened in 1982, a theme park which was intended to create Disney's vision of a "community of tomorrow". Disney-MGM Studios (known as Disney's Hollywood Studios as of 2008) was opened in 1989, another theme park which revolves around show business, while the final theme park, Disney's Animal Kingdom, arrived in 1998. Things to do in Florida (Disney)As one would expect, any family taking a holiday to the resort will not find themselves short of activities or attractions on an average day - this is perhaps why 20 million visitors arrive every year. Each of the four theme parks is characterised by an iconic structure, while there are also three water parks, a shopping district, numerous eateries, a police force, various transport systems and medical centres. Some of the main attractions include the Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach, Disney's Wedding Pavilion, Disney's BoardWalk and Disney's Wide World of Sport Complex. The resort also plays host to five golf courses, including four 18-hole ones - the Magnolia, the Palm, Lake Buena Vista and Osprey Ridge - while there are two mini-golf courses for the kids. In terms of finding a hotel, this should not be a problem as there are 22 Disney-owned hotels on the resort and a further ten places to secure accommodation which are privately-owned. Weather in Florida (Disney)While it is likely that most tourists who book flights to the resort will not be doing so for the weather, an assessment of the climate in Orlando should nevertheless feature in its holiday information. The climate is largely temperate, with lowest temperatures (between 10C and 22C) being recorded in January, while July and August are very hot and humid (up to 33C) and can be rainy.
