Just a short distance from the bustling capital of Copenhagen, Aarhus is famous for its Gothic architecture and Viking heritage.
Among the highlights for any visitor to the city are the Arhus Domkirke, the tallest and longest cathedral in the whole of Denmark, the Botanic Garden, the ARoS arts museum, the Viking Museum and Marselisborg Palace, where the Danish royal family enjoy their summer holidays.
At the same time, however, the city's Latin Quarter is now home to some of northern Europe's trendiest bars and restaurants, while a number of designer boutiques have sprung up over recent years, offering visitors a
unique shopping experience.
Hotel Ferdinand
Scandinavia is not known as the home of chic design for nothing, as the Hotel Ferdinand shows.
Located in the heart of Denmark's second city, the boutique hotel offers bright, spacious accommodation that wouldn't look out of place in an artsy, cutting-edge interior design magazine.
Alongside contemporary Scandinavian design, the chic rooms, as well as the fully-equipped studio apartments on offer to guests, boast French-style bathrooms, with the whole look of the four-star hotel perfectly balanced between simplicity and elegance.
In addition to its up-market rooms, the Ferdinand also boasts its own world-class brasserie, offering contemporary Danish cuisine, though the restaurants, bars and museums of downtown Aarhus are just a ten minute stroll away.
Hotel Mercur
Sticking to the business philosophy that "it doesn't have to be expensive to sleep and eat well", the Hotel Mercur offers the ideal solution for visitors to Aarhus looking for comfort and convenience without wanting to break the bank.
One of the smaller hotels in the city, the three-star venue is able to give guests, whether they are staying over for business or leisure purposes, personalised service, with staff keen to live up to Aarhus's nickname of the 'City of Smiles'.
Its central Torv Square location makes the Hotel Mercur the ideal base from which to explore the highlights of Aarhus Old Town, including the Open Air Museum and the Tivoli Friheden amusement park.
Further afield, Legoland and the stunning Jutland coast are just a short hire car drive away.
Sabro Kro Hotel
Boasting one of the most fascinating histories of any hotel in Denmark's second-largest city, the Montra Hotel Sabro Kro was founded in 1855 as a travellers' inn with a Royal Charter.
Over the past century, the hotel has served to accommodate racing cyclists and then members of Denmark's Temperance Movement, though today it offers top-of-the-range four-star accommodation to both tourists checking out the many attractions of Aarhus, as well as corporate travellers looking to stay near the city's main business district.
With the latter group of guests in mind, over the past few years, the hotel has benefitted from the construction of new meeting and conference rooms, while the kitchens and bar have been given a major makeover, allowing the hotel to offer its customers contemporary Danish cuisine.
