What is Top Gear Live?

Top Gear Live is geared at motoring enthusiasts, offering “an exciting variation of the more traditional motor show”. That is, instead of simply being able to see a range of new cars, visitors are given the opportunity to see first-hand and interact with favourite segments from the massively-popular TV show. Furthermore, the live show also boasts a number of features that you won’t get to see on TV, including ground-breaking stunts and wanton destruction involving some of the world’s most expensive and powerful cars.

History of Top Gear Live

The Top Gear TV series was re-launched in 2002, with the core presenting trio of Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond in place a year later. Buoyed by strong viewing figures, both in the UK and overseas, the Top Gear crew decided to take the show on the road and Top Gear Live was born in 2008.

Since then, the Top Gear crew have taken their show around the world, bringing car-related mayhem to hundreds of thousands of fans in countries including Australia, Norway, New Zealand, the United States and South Africa.

Top Gear Live UK 2012

Top Gear Live UK will take place at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham between Thursday October 25 and Sunday October 28, 2012. On each day, the main exhibition will be open between 10am and either 5.30pm or 7.00pm, with performances from the main presenters, as well as from the stunt team and The Stig taking place throughout the day. The main attractions of the 2012 Top Gear Live UK show include:

Clarkson, Hammond and May Live: The three main presenters of the TV show will also be anchoring the 2012 live shows, with the trio set to appear on a specially-adapted version of the TV set in front of the NEC audience. According to the Top Gear Live website, “Jeremy, James and Richard will be back in front of a live NEC audience doing what they do best. Arguing, shouting and occasionally crashing things”.

The Track: New to Top Gear Live in 2012 will be a special track alongside the main performance arena (with ticket-holders getting access to both). Essentially a scaled-down version of the TV track, this part of the show will feature high-performance driving demonstrations with Top Gear’s very own mystery man The Stig, as well as celebrities taking part in the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car challenge. Though the names of the stars due to take part in 2012 is being kept under wraps, given that Chris Evans and Rupert Grint were among the celebrities who got behind the wheel of the everyday vehicle in 2011, expect some major A-listers to be in attendance this time around.

The Exhibition: Away from the action of the track and the main stage, the Top Gear Live Exhibition gives visitors the chance to get up-close to some of the hottest cars on the market today (or even to cars that have yet to be launched). Among the manufacturers set to be exhibiting at Top Gear Live 2012 are Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin and Mercedes, with their latest models to be showcased alongside quirky cars from some of the world’s smallest companies, as well as vehicles from the world of racing and from the movies. Additionally, visitors to the show will also be able to experience being on the actual Top Gear set and have their own say on what cars are hot and which are not on a blown-up version of the Cool Wall from the TV show.
