Best Football Bets

Fulltime Result

Of all the ways you can bet on a football match this is the simplest; just predict whether the game will end in a home win, an away win or a draw and put your money down accordingly. If your prediction is correct, you win at the odds the bookmaker has quoted. If the end result is different from your prediction, you lose.

Correct Score

Another very simple type of bet, here you just need to predict the score at the end of normal time (not after extra time, or penalties, or over two legs). Note that possible scores are usually quoted as home team first, away team second, so make double-sure you get them the right way down before you put any money down.

While Correct Score is a simple bet to make, given there are many possible outcomes of a single match, the chances of guessing correctly tend to be quite low, making this type of bet quite unpopular with serious tipsters.

Accumulators give you the chance to bet on the results of several matches at once. The more games you bet on, the better your odds become. However, these are more risky than single Correct Score bets since every bet in your Accumulator has to come good, otherwise you lose. Double and treble accumulators are among the most popular, though bookmakers will be happy for you to bet on as many matches as you want.

A twist on Correct Score, Halftime/Fulltime (or HT/FT as you may see it advertised as) allows you to predict what the score of a match will be first after 45 minutes and then after 90. With this type of bet, you will be given 9 options, representing the 9 different possible outcomes. For instance, you could back a team to be level at half time and win over 90 minutes or to be ahead at the break and finish as losers.

First Goal Scorer

Again, this is as straightforward as it sounds. Simply guess who will score the first goal in a game and back this player. Compared to other, more risky bets, this can be a relatively safe option, especially if you have a good knowledge of form going into a match. However, bookmakers often vary their rules, so while some may count an own goal as the first one of the match, others will ignore them and only count 'normal' goals. Similarly, while some bookies will give you your money back if the player you back is not on the pitch at the time of the first goal, others will not.

First Goal Scorer can often be combined with Correct Score or Fulltime Result, with these combinations offering more attractive odds.

First Corner

This type of bet allows you to predict when the first corner of a game will be, wither to the exact minute or within a fixed time frame (for example, between 10 and 15 minutes). The odds offered for this type of bet tend to be quite attractive, though it's difficult – if not impossible – to predict this accurately, making First Corner more a fun flutter than a serious wager.

Number of Corners

As well as being able to guess when the first corner of a game will be, you may also be able to bet on how many corners there will be in a single match. Again, you will get longer odds for betting on an exact number, but you will also be able to spread your bets, for example by putting money on there being between 5 and 10 corners in the normal 90 minutes.

In Play Markets

A relatively new and increasingly popular phenomenon, In Play Markets allow you to place bets as matches progress, with odds constantly shifting. For instance, if a team goes behind early on, you can bet on them coming from behind to win, or even back a specific player to get the next goal. Some online bookmakers offer live streaming of games, giving punters the chance to place bets as the action unfolds, and, as long as you have money in your account, you are free to change your mind as often as you like.
