In 1974, with many of the top amateur players receiving payment for playing, The F.A. abolished the distinction, scrapped the Amateur Cup and introduced the F.A. Cup was launched in 1993-94 but women already had their own knockout competition in the shape of the Mitre Trophy, introduced in 1970-71 and run by the Women's Football Association (WFA). Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) CUP

The Cosafa Castle Cup was launched in 1997 and very quickly become one of the most exciting competitions on the African soccer calendar. The annual tournament is played for by members of the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations and has rapidly risen into a de-facto regional championship for the countries south of the Congo River. View Site »

FA Community Shield, The Ribbon8

FA Community Shield, The

The Charity Shield fixture evolved from the Sheriff of London Shield and between 1908 and 1928 it featured the League Champions and the Southern League Champions, or a select team of amateurs against a select team of professionals. From 1974-2000, the then F.A. Charity Shield was played at Wembley. In 2001 the match was held at The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. View Site »
