Beverley overview

Beverley is a market town and the county town of the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is located between the River Hull and the Westwood. In 2007, the town made national headlines when it was named the best place to live in Britain in an Affordable Affluence study by the Royal Bank of Scotland.

The town's origins can be traced back to the seventh century and its minster, which dominates the local landscape, was built in 1220. The minster remains in excellent condition is a big tourist attraction.
Beverley is also a popular destination with horse racing fans, with Beverley Racecourse hosting a number of high-profile races throughout the sporting calendar. Other attractions in the town are its regular markets and the array of music festivals that are held each year.

The 2001 UK census concluded that the total population of Beverley was 29,110.

Beverley location

Beverley is located eight miles north-west of Hull and ten miles east of Market Weighton. It is also just 12 miles west of the seaside town of Hornsea, allowing visitors to easily get away to the coast for a few hours.
